Project Life 2012: Week Nine

Busy week. Exciting week. Full layout with both inserts:

Seem to be on a bluey/green and yellow streak:

Much of this week was focused on our travels; however, the boys and I were completely sidelined by a pretty nasty bug Sunday evening and Monday. Attended a Good Form Running Clinic on Sunday morning- watching your self, your FULL self, on camera is an incredibly humbling experience. Learned a great deal and have a lot to work on:

Trying to keep the boys busy and happy while trying to finish the necessary laundry to pack for five days was quite a task, but got it done. And packed. And managed to get us all up, dressed, and out of the house by 5 am to make our 7 am flight…felt like a Mommy Rockstar. A tired, Mommy Rockstar.

Ty’s last basketball game was Wednesday and I forgot my camera. So mad. It was a big milestone for us and such a positive experience for him. I really wanted to include something, so I folded up his schedule and slid a journaling card inside. While my Wednesdays typically fall on the left side, I just put it on the right side as the pockets are open up top to easily slide out the journal card. I like how the middle journal slots all managed to come together even though very different:

Inserts. One Design A, cut in half. One Design D, last third cut off. I like the layered look for inserts.

Having survived Las Vegas solo with a 3 year old and 5 year old (Daddy was working), I feel like I can do just about anything. We did this same trip when the boys were 1 and 3 and I thought this year would be SO much easier, not so much. We still managed to do quite a bit of exploring: The Dolphin Habitat was a favorite, I am not sure there are many places that allow you to get so close to the dolphins. The boys were completely fascinated. We saw the Lorax. Hit up The Strip at night to see all the lights, the Mirage Volcano explosion, the pirate show, the gondolas…

My highlight is always The Coffee Bean. Every.single.year. LOVE Coffee Bean. A lot.

I kept a Ziploc bag with me to keep all the little tickets, stubs, and napkins. All things Project Life-able. Whatever didn’t make it into the layout, made into the “random” pocket. I think I may do that any time I have a lot of stuff…and not enough pockets.

And I am convinced I totally jinxed us. Day two in a row of RAIN. Of the NON-STOP variety…

Project Life 2012: Week Eight

Thank you for the comments about Week Seven. It really means a lot to me that you took the time to stop by and leave a comment. I don’t know how I could have forgotten that Ty lost his first tooth last week! So, I re-did a small journal card for Week Seven and feel a lot better about it. The entire right side of the second page was thrown together with an assortment of out-of-order photos and keepsakes. Getting the lost tooth right makes the Type A in me relax and enjoy the final product a little more. Simple pocket with a pull out of Ty’s new toothless look:

WEEK 8

This week’s layout was the complete opposite of the last, super easy to put together. I think some weeks will just be easier than others…I am really liking the way much of my scrapbook goods collection matches up with the Clementine PL set. I am trying to use my stash and avoid buying more. So far, so good. Left side:

Right side. Funny as I was putting this together, relishing our AMAZING sunny February weather, it was raining. Go figure.

The Deets:

I love the freedom of storytelling Project Life offers. You don’t have to do a photo and journal card. You can tell stories between journal slots…any way you desire:

Thanks for stopping by!

Linking up HERE, so grateful for the extra kick in the pants the weekly link ups offer. I am quite certain I would NOT be caught up if it were not for these posts. Check it out, TONS of awesome inspiration. Amazing to see so many variations of the same project. Love it.

Project Life 2012: Week Seven

I had a really hard time with week seven. I have had all the photos and extra goodies for weeks but have avoided putting it together. I am not sure why. You’d think a week with a birthday party and Valentine’s Day would be easy. Not so much. I am not entirely sure I am finished, there is something missing to me…just haven’t figured out what. Here is what I’ve got so far, the full layout with additional inserts:

I struggled to find enough pictures this week, hence the inclusion of some bedding that I found and LOVE (not sure it’s Project Life-able but it filled the pocket space for now):

Left side: lots of birthday party details, a special Valentine’s tag made by Ty (he wrote “I Love You, Mommy” but told me he had a hard time making it fit, sweet boy), and a simple movie ticket stub…

And the side I struggled with and did not have enough photos to fill…

Insert one and my first experience with Design E. I wanted to include pieces of all the boys’ valentines from their classmates. I debated taping the top closed but like that the squares can be shifted, or taken out to be looked at if need be.

Bottom pockets are the two valentines the boys made for me. I debated matting them but wanted the back visible as they both signed them:

The Deets:

I love, love, love the little tag Ty made me. One of my favorite parts of this week’s layout:

I was one pocket short of photos this week. I have been looking for new bedding for the last few years, super picky, and finally found something I love. I am just not sure I want it there but it works for now…

Project Life 2012: Weeks 5 and 6

I had so much fun putting these two weeks together. The last few weeks have been a complete blur: birthdays, birthday party, sick family members, repeated drives up to the Lake…it was nice to have the chance to sit and focus on the happy parts that are often overlooked or easily forgotten.

WEEK 5

Much of this week consisted of making party favors for the boys’ birthday party. When I decided to make Lego crayons it seemed like a FANTASTIC idea, two batches later and I was wondering what I was thinking…

Celebrated mini-bit’s birthday, had a visit from the Binky Fairy, and drove up to the Lake last minute…

Additional insert this week:

Inside pages of insert: Jake’s favorite things at age 3 (left side is Design D cut down, right side is a 12 x 12 9 pocket page, cut down):

Back side of insert:

The deets:

Week 5 can otherwise be called the week I fell in love with the little flag thingies:

WEEK 6 (my new favorite layout to date)

I really did not have enough pictures for this week. I was out of town and then the husband was out of town…luckily, we had some fun outside Superbowl Sunday and it made for some awesome Project Life-ing. I absolutely adore the middle section of this week:

Another trip up to the Lake, this time with the boys in tow. Got to FINALLY meet my gorgeous new niece. In spite of the circumstances, it was a really awesome weekend/visit:

Title page and the deets:

We had so much fun playing football outside in the front yard. I love that it’s the main focus of this week. Every single one of us headed inside with a smile and the boys have asked numerous times to play again. I am certain it will become a regular weekend activity:

Inspired by the month of February and hearts this week:

Project Life 2012: Week 4

Week four. Unlike last week, I didn’t have a lot of pictures. I didn’t pick up my camera very much. It was one of those super busy weeks, sandwiched between both boys’ birthdays, where my camera spent most of its time on the shelf.

Left side: countdown to Operation Binky Fairy begins next week. Oy. Finished up valentines for the boys’ classes.

Right side: crafty fun with the boys, first basketball game. Having fun including more “girly” stuff in the album even though my house is ruled by all things boy.

Loving the simplicity, texture, and addition of a little lace:

Love making the “Can You Find?” Valentines. Second year making them, still love…

Project Life 2012: Week 3

Left side: this week was all about reflection. How impossibly quick five years can go by. While I had plenty of actual daily photos, I wanted to include some of my favorite baby pictures and illustrate the “now” and “then”…looking back years from now, the journey from one to five will mean more than forcing daily pictures into the project. I haven’t really stressed about making Project Life a daily album, in fact, I don’t think I have yet to make a “weekly” layout that focuses on a picture a day. I typically focus on the main events/themes/milestones of the week.

Right side. This is actually the third rendering of the right side. I didn’t like the way it was coming together. It looked way too busy for my liking. I took out a few of the photos I had placed in the journaling section and added a couple of “simpler” cards to tone it down. I don’t usually try to do a color theme but managed to stick with the green/blue/yellow…

Baby pictures. Now and then. Love that PL is all about making it what you want to be:

Had fun incorporating a little bit of MY story into PL this week:

Title page:

Full week layout with additional inserts (mentioned in last week’s post):

Progress on week 4: a complete opposite sort of week, not photo heavy at all:

Project Life 2012: Week 2

The one thing I love the most about Project Life is that you can never really fall too far behind. I am up to date photo wise, just haven’t had time to sit and journal…really trying to keep it simple this year.

I haven’t finished the layout for week 3 yet, but I have finished the additional inserts for big bit’s fifth birthday:

A simple copy of the birthday letter I wrote him and “I ❤ u” print that I love:

One of my favorite “layouts” to date: a compilation of all his favorite things/all about him at age 5:

I especially love “how he write’s his name”…

Back side. Wanted bits and pieces of things he loves. I think it will be fun to watch the packaging change over the years, the toys evolve, and the shoes grow…

Project Life 2012: Week One

Left side:

Extra insert this week: my “one little word” (nurture) and 2012 goals:

Right side:

The deets:

Love the little adhesive tabs for extra page inserts:

Really wanted to find a way to incorporate the adorable little polka dot envelopes I found at Joanns (by Martha Stewart):

My favorite part of this weeks layout a conversation I had in the car with Ty:

2012 can also be called the year I fell in love with washi tape. Super late to the game, I know, but the stuff is all kinds of awesome:

Project Life 2012: Cover Page

Have always LOVED the blue and brown color combination. Love how the black makes it pop. Used bits and pieces of burlap left over from my holiday crafty endeavors:

Lesson learned from Project Life 2011: keep dimensional embellies towards the front, they leave the back pages indented and warp the pictures. Unfortunately.

Had to make photocopies of family pictures. We WILL take new family pictures this year. Definitely want one of the boys, all of them, together. I am severely outnumbered in this house:

Love the “In This House” print out. Describes my goals for our family life perfectly:

Project Life 2012

As I get ready to finish up Project Life 2011, I am immensely grateful for all the memories, keepsakes, and photographs housed within its pages. Having lost all the photographs of my kids from their infancy to now stored on our old computer, a devastating loss, the only photos I have of the last year are those printed and inserted into Project Life. A simple system of memory keeping: take pictures, print out, insert, journal. Repeat. It has singlehandedly changed the way I look at daily life: I have learned to see the joy in seemingly mundane daily tasks, I have learned that those small, everyday moments really do make up the fabric of our memories, our lives. I have become much more motivated to carry my camera around and USE it. I have found myself in situations where I think: “that is SO project life-able”. I cherish my kids’ artwork and love that it can easily be included. By far the biggest “gift” of Project Life: instead of a pile of photographs, collection of scrapbook papers and embellishments, and mental notes as to what to do with it all, I have a completed album of pictures, journaling, and memories. Done. Absolutely, wholeheartedly LOVE Project Life:

Included my goal for Project Life 2011 in the title page: “Document more, forget less, and cherish it all.” Done.

Before embarking on Project Life 2012, I needed to de-clutter, organize, and rethink my approach. While I would love to have a dedicated crafty magic space in the house (aka. an office), it’s just not feasible. Most of my paper goodness lives in the garage, along with a table that lies unused. While I appreciate the space in the garage, it’s not the most user-friendly, happy space in the house and it’s hard to craft in the garage while the boys run around inside the house, destroying everything in their path. As a result, I do much of my crafting IN the house at the kitchen table or in the dining room. And our dining room currently looks like this:

And my kitchen counter looks like this:

Determined to organize the goods, purge the things that have gone unused for months, and in some cases years, and develop a system that allows me to easily transport goods from room to room, I bought these bad boys from the dollar section at Target. And some clothes pins after seeing the amazing, fantabulous Mish Mash Blog. Goal: to streamline and organize the above chaos and madness.

Voila: the end result. You can SEE the actual dining room table. First time in months. The bare essentials.

White tub. Journal spots and labels of many different varieties:

Red tub. Letter stickers, embellishment stickers, and cup of pens/scissors/etc:

Smash book tub. I plan to use the Smash book for One Little Word, as well as incorporate the embellishments into Project Life. Everything needed in one spot:

Revamped, organized Project Life station on kitchen counter. Bring it. Ready to go…
