I have read a number of similar posts from other mommies and, at the time, I wondered what the big deal was. I, I thought to myself, look forward to Ty getting older. What’s with all the sap.
Now, here I sit, the sappiest sap that ever sapped.
There really is something quite amazing in all that is accomplished in baby’s first year.
I wrote things down.
I blogged.
I took a ton of pictures.
However, when I search my brain for certain moments, my memory fails me. The truth is, there are SO many milestones, so many memories that have forever changed our family that it would be impossible to remember everything.
I can vividly remember this day one year ago- the anticipation of having a baby, the wonder of what he would look like, the fear of not having a name picked out, and the awe that the hospital was going to let US walk out with the baby. US. With a baby. The sleepless nights contorted on the glider, breathing very slowly, if at all, in hopes that Ty would stay asleep. Fearing a sneeze. The excitement of Ty’s joy as he jumped in his new jumperoo. And jumped. And jumped. And jumped. The sweetness of his nose as he nuzzled into my neck as he fell asleep. The new baby smell. The hours just staring at him…in complete amazement. Drool. The sound of Ty’s laughter. Drool. How proud we were when he finally figured out how to crawl…and then what now seems days later, learned how to walk.
It has been an amazing year and we are so proud of all that Ty has accomplished and look forward to all the exciting things in the years ahead. People tell you that having a baby will change things and they are right. This one adorable, active, curious, adventurous little boy has truly conquered our hearts….and our home. And our mini blinds. And our Tupperware drawer.
Happy Birthday, Ty.
We hope your next year is full of love, laughter, and lots of happy memories.
Love,
Mommy and Daddy

I know it’s about a week before his first birthday; however, his pedi was SUPER busy and we were just able to get in for his 10-month well check. He was sick off an on during his tenth month and by the time I called…today was the first available appointment.
SO, his ten month stats: lol. Okay, his 11 month stats:
23 pounds 3 ounces
31 inches long
He’s finally caught up, height wise, to many of his friends….

LOVING his new ride-in car from Grandma and Grandpa. Of course, the super cold weather meant he had to wear his not-so-favorite hat, but he loved it so much he let Grandma take him for a ride all the way around the block. Keep in mind, it’s a “country” block…which means it’s about a mile and half or so all the way around.

Special gifts from Daddy’s trip to Hawaii…including a board book that teaches him how to say colors in Hawaiian. SO fun.

Riding in his new wagon from Papa G…

Playing with each and every single LEGO in the container…making sure they are ALL out.

Giggling at my voice on his new “cell phone”…

Note to self: Do not attempt to blow up a humungo dragon ball pit- BUY a PUMP, and do not buy a 100 piece lego set and a 170 piece ball pit set in the SAME year…imagine the world’s WORST game of 52 Card Pick Up.

FUNNY STORY: Ty’s great grandma has an end table by “her chair” where she keeps the remote and all her “special” stuff. Of course, whenever we visit Ty goes right to the table and climbs on top in an effort to knock all her stuff to the ground. She is constantly telling him “no”…so, my little smarty pants walks up to her, grabs her hand, and utters “UH UH.” Hehe. Now we call her Great Grandma UH UH.
The Marathon Day aka CHRISTMAS:
Our Christmas day began at …4 am. After having been up every two hours. UGH. Christmas morning Ty played with his new toys from Santa and Mark and I packed up the cars. We had two cars and needed every inch of space. We headed to Mark’s Mom’s house where we visited and saw all of Ty’s cousins. Nana Cindy bought all the boys personalized sweatshirts…SO CUTE.

Solomon, Elijah, Nico, and Ty
Joined by Nana Cindy and Selah…

THE UGLY: It took Ty all of a minute or so to discover Nana Cindy’s beautifully decorated tree and go for the ornaments. In the blink of an eye, he had a bulb in his hands and before anyone could do anything he bit into it. It burst into a gazillion little pieces and cut the inside of his mouth- there was blood everywhere. He had little cuts on his cheek and hands. After washing his mouth out with water and letting him chew on an ice cube wrapped with a washcloth, he was quickly back in a festive mood and ready to play with his cousins. It was definitely more scary for all of the adults than for Ty…but we all learned our lesson about tree decorating for next year.
After opening presents and visiting, we drove over to Autie Phyllis’ house. It was then off to Papa G’s house for dinner and more presents. Ty managed to stay up and in good spirits until we left around 10 – 10:30. We pulled into our driveway around midnight.
A long day…but a day full of love, laughter, and family. There were a number of priceless memories made today…

Ty is 11 months old and I am in severe denial that the big O-N-E is just around the corner. It is really amazing to see how far he’s come in 11 short months. I can still vividly remember being VERY pregnant this time last year. Struggling to squeeze my belly into my students’ desks to help them. Having my kids write me pieces of advice in preparation of Ty’s arrival- although at the time we had NO idea what we were going to name our little dancing bean. Eleven months later and Ty…
* WALKS…runs even
* gets into EVERYthing and anything
* says “Mama”, “Dada”…and various other things in his “own” language
* he loves to play with his toys and is fun watching him. He’s recently learned how to really play with his shape sorter and loves taking things in and out of boxes
* he moved up a clothing size. He spent about a week in the 6 – 12 month sized clothes and jumped up to the 12 – 18 month size in what seemed to be overnight.
* he also wears a size 4 diaper now
* still LOVES grilled cheese sandwiches
It is so hard to remember all of the fun and new things he does because he seems to learn something new everyday. He is a very aware, persistant kid- he’ll closely watch what you do and often copies you in his own way. He is silly and funny…and stubborn. He’ll let you know when he’s not happy…and clearly makes it known when he is. He is at a fun, fun age!!

How could it possibly be time to write this post. I can’t believe that he is already ten months old. He seems to be learning new things everyday and, of course, because I am biased, he is the smartest baby in the world. Some of his latest tricks include:
* taking three or four steps in a row…walking is in his near future
* saying “mama”, “baba”, “papa”, “dada”
* waves hello and goodbye- although we are working on the timing of the waves. The one thing he does have down- when he wants to leave a store he starts waving. Smart boy.
* he LOVES grilled cheese sandwiches, toast, bagels, english muffins…basically any and all carbs
* he loves to push around his walker, chairs, stroller, anything that is pushable
* he loves taking baths in the big boy tub and will crawl to bathroom and jump into the tub if the door is left open
* he is a big flirt
* he is utterly adorable
* he gives the world’s best kisses
* at his last DRs appointment a week ago, he was 21 pounds and 30.5 inches long.

Ty and I joined some of his baby friends and their mommies at the local park for a Halloween celebration today. My little Eeyore:

Sharing his lunch with Sara. This is also the first picture I have of him sticking out his tongue like this. I have pics of him doing raspberries, but the whole sticking tongue out thing is new.

Chowin down…they both seemed to really enjoy the pretzel from Jamba Juice. Yay.

Ty supplemented his lunch with bark…

Ejoyed chewing on the cement bench…

He tried to explain to Gummy how fabulous the bench tasted but he wasn’t looking very interested. Sigh. My boy really knows how to make friends.

Eating sand while we’re trying to get seven babies to pose for a group picture. Needless to say, this was about as good as it got.

Attempt two. Eating more sand.

My new FAVORITE picture. My happy little Eeyore.

So, one of the only ways I can get him to “sit still” for a photo these days is to put him IN his basket of toys. He loves it. All his toys are easily within reach. The “fun” lasts for about five minutes and then our little Bam Bam is out and about.
* He’s averaging about nine hours total of sleep at night. He often wakes up twice. Maybe, on a good day, about two hours worth of naps. Usually, more like one. Mark and I are exhausted. Ty, however, is our little Enigizer Bunny despite the fact that he gets nowhere near the “typical” amount of sleep “most babies” get.
* He can stand unassisted for about a minute but hasn’t yet figured out what to do next.
* He claps. And claps. And claps….And claps.
* He can climb the couch in a breeze. Easily climbs up the stairs and has figued out how to “crawl” down them. We only have four steps so it wasn’t too tough for him to figure out.
* He loves to “read” his books these days. One of his favorite things to do is to take each and every book off our bookshelf in the office…and then chew on the corners.
* He dances to music…and waves his hands in the air like he just doesn’t care.
* He has learned how to open cabinets, drawers, and closet doors.
* He has EIGHT teeth…well 7 and 1/4 to be exact. The eighth is making its first appearance as we speak.
and…

He’s not a big fan of real peas. He was cracking me up as he tried “real peas” for the first time. Silly boy…

Yikes. We have had a VERY busy month. I can’t believe how quickly he’s reaching new milestones. I feel as though someone has pushed a fast forward button and the days are zooming by in the blink of an eye.
* Ty now has four teeth: two bottom and the two top left…his little lopsided grin looks SUPER silly but SO cute.
* He is eating three “solid” meals a day- breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Loves finger foods. Chews like a champ. Drinks out of his sippy cup…now, we just have to try to keep up with him. Keeping the pantry stocked with baby food seems to be a very big challenge these days.
* He pulls himself up to standing on anything and everything. He particularly likes the couch, me, and our dresser- because it has the oh-so-fabulous sparkly golden handles.
* He can crawl “normally”…no more centipede moves; however, he would have done quite well with his “moves” on a baby dance show.
* He can sit himself up on his own.
* We had to lower his crib to the lowest setting because the little guy can stand up in his crib.
* He loves to sit in the shopping cart and “flirt” or smile at anyone who will look his way. Of course, when he is ready to go he oh-so-kindly lets me know. I, however, have the secret power of “puffs” and they usually by me another twenty minutes or so.
* He loves to PLAY with his toys now and clearly goes to the ones he’s interested in. Of course, the opposite is also true- he makes it known which ones he could care less about by throwing them to the side or simply crawling right over them.
* His favorite toys of the moment: his Parents magazine mp3 player, LeapFrog learning table and alphabet ball, Playskool activity table, alphabet floor puzzle, my keys, the remote control, and my bangs. Ugh.
